BODY MIND HORSE

You know how to hold it together. But your body is keeping score.

You manage. You show up. You do what needs to be done.

But somewhere underneath the doing, there is a tiredness that won’t go away and that sleep doesn’t fix. A tension that yoga helps but doesn’t resolve. A knowing that you are living in your head, in your lists, in the next thing — while your body waits patiently below.

You’ve talked about it. You’ve journalled about it. You may have done therapy about it.

What you haven’t done is let a horse show you where you actually are..

Body Mind Horse is a one-to-one somatic learning experience for adults, held on the ground with a horse at our Hout Bay venue.

This is not a riding session. It is not coaching, therapy, or a workshop.

It is an hour of genuine embodied practice — guided, held, and honest — in which the horse becomes your most direct teacher.

Horses are exquisitely attuned to the nervous system. They don’t respond to what you say about how you’re doing. They respond to how you actually are: your breath, your tension, your presence – or absence from your own body. In that response — instant, non-verbal, and entirely without judgement — lies the learning.

Body Mind Horse draws on the principles of Equine Facilitated Somatic Learning (EFSL): the understanding that the body holds wisdom the mind can’t always access, and that real regulation — not managed calm, but genuine settling — happens through felt experience, and not through thinking.

Each session runs for 60 minutes and follows a gentle, spacious structure:

We begin with you — not the horse.
A brief check-in: how are you arriving today?
We introduce the space, and the horse
And take time to land, breath, and become present

Then we work with the horse.
This is the heart of the session. Working quietly on the ground alongside the horse, you are guided through breath-based and somatic practices — mindfulness, body awareness, nervous system regulation — while the horse responds in real time to your internal state. You will notice things here that you cannot notice anywhere else.

Closing.
We step back and reflect — not in an analytical way, but somatically.
The closing is where the learning is anchored, so that you leave with something you can carry forward and apply in your day to day life.

Body Mind Horse is for the woman who is running on empty and knows it.

She may be navigating burnout — the kind that comes from giving too much for too long. She may be living with chronic stress, anxiety, or the exhausting invisibility of holding everything together for everyone else. She may be at a turning point — not in crisis, but aware that something needs to change, and that the change needs to happen in her body, not just her thinking.

If this is you, then this is for you.

The horse in a Body Mind Horse session is not a prop, a pet, or a co-therapist. In the Medicine Horse tradition, we work with the horse an ally — a being of extraordinary sensitivity and presence, who offers something human facilitators can’t:
an entirely honest, body-to-body reflection of your nervous system state.

When you are scattered, the horse feels it. When you settle, the horse settles.

That moment of mutual regulation — felt in the body, not filtered by the mind — is where something real becomes possible.

Body Mind Horse is facilitated by Sam Huckle, founder of Medicine Horse — a somatic practitioner, coach, and animal communicator with forty years of lived experience with horses and eight years of professional equine-facilitated practice.

Sam’s work draws on training in NVC (Nonviolent Communication), somatic and embodied approaches, Family Constellations, and multiple coaching modalities. She is neurodivergent herself, and brings particular attunement to women who feel everything but can’t always find the words for it.

She does not work from a clinical model. She works from presence, deep knowledge of horses, and a genuine commitment to meeting each person exactly where they are.
